Hatteras built these very popular transatlantic 58 pilothouse trawlers, beginning May 1975 and continuing until May 1985. With a cruising range of 3000 miles at 9 knots, economical twin Diesel engines and large fuel and water tanks they were designed to be able to plow through most sea conditions and keep going.
We got the call from one of our longtime customers here in Annapolis that it was finally time to upgrade electronics on his 1975 58' LRC. The upgrade features a new Simrad 4G radar, 2 Simrad 16" MFD's , AP-44 Autopilot, and various other components to make operation underway as seamless as possible.
Let's first take a look at the old setup at the helm station
To fit in the new MFD's the bottom helm station needed to be rebuilt, along with moving the gauges and removing the old autopilot controller in the center of the dash.
