Lithium-ion batteries are often an ideal replacement for many 12V and 24V marine, automotive, caravan, and similar battery applications. They are a popular and efficient choice for boaters due to their long lifespan, fast charging capabilities, and lightweight design. Do you have multiple electronics on your boat that draw power from a single battery? If so, you may benefit from Victron Energy’s Lithium SuperPack batteries. With a SuperPack, the load will be lighter than lead, smaller if you wish, give you more power in the same space, and give you around 5 times the cycle life. All-In-One Package

The main difference from Victron’s other lithium batteries is that the SuperPacks keep everything in one package by having an integrated BMS and safety switch built in. No additional components are needed, as the internal switch will disconnect the battery in case of overdischarge, overcharge, or high temperature. Simple, compact, and safe.

If you are considering a new battery, don’t immediately discount Lithium as too costly. While it is true that the cost of Li-ion is greater than that of AGM or Gel batteries, the cost of ownership can be less than that of lead-acid types. Much depends on your application, but Li-ion batteries are far less of a hassle than lead.

When to use a SuperPack?

Every battery size and type has its own particular use. For instance, you may use the Lithium batteries 12,8V and 25,6V Smart in quite different applications from the new SuperPack range. So, where should you use the SuperPacks?

When replacing lead-acid type batteries in many applications, the SuperPack range can be considered the next generation after lead, making it far easier to replace lead with lithium. The only caveats are that replacement is down to specific parameters being met, such as Capacity, Voltages, Discharge, and Charge currents. In that case, ensure your chosen replacement fits your criteria by checking the datasheet, and be aware that the SuperPacks can be connected in parallel, but not in series.

Add a Battery Monitoring System for More Control

The Battery Monitor Victron range consists of products with BMV-7 in the model name. This BMV range is a group of high-precision battery monitors. Their essential function is calculating ampere-hours consumed and the battery’s state of charge. Think of these monitors as your battery’s fuel gauge, with a timing indicator and much more.

Each model comes with a square bezel overlay, a securing ring for rear mounting, and screws for front mounting. Any model can be mounted in a panel of your choice with a 2.0-inch aperture or in one of Victron’s optional wall enclosures.
